It’s a Good Day for Poké in Long Beach

unnamed-7

It’s only been open a week, but it is already causing major buzz in the LBC. With a location in Hollywood, and two others to come in Studio City and Eagle Rock, Poké Bar is bringing the Hawaiian Classic further south with their Long Beach location. You get to choose your bowl size, your base (rice, nachos, or salad), your protein (salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, octopus, shrimp, albacore, and tofu, your toppings (crab meat, seaweed salad, cucumber, jalapenos, onions, green onions, pineapple, corn, cilantro, wasabi, ginger, avocado, and more), and your sauce (ponzu, house dressing sauce, spicy mayo, and more)!

I chose the small brown rice with crab meat, seaweed salad, salmon, cucumber, onions, masago, ginger, and ponzu sauce. Everything was very fresh and for the smallest size, the salmon to rice ratio was perfect. I will definitely be going back to try the other combinations. It’s very similar to a lot of other build your own poké bowl places, especially to some of the newer spots in LA and the Westside, but it is a welcome and needed new spot in downtown Long Beach!

An American Kitchen with Greek Soul in Long Beach

I’m obsessed with Kafe Neo in Long Beach. It is a favorite of many locals, and it took me way too long to try it. They are located at the beginning of Retro Row on 4th street in the middle of all of the action! They have a beautiful patio and small indoor space with daily specials and an extensive menu, but I definitely have my favorites…

The Zeus Fries are BOMB made with seasoned fries and topped with their secret spicy sauce and feta. SPICY MEAN SPICY, people! If you are prone to heartburn, I highly recommend getting the Feta Fries, which are just as delicious without the burn. All of the fresh dip appetizers are delicious as well, and there is a Check-in Deal on Yelp for a FREE one. The Lamb Burger, Blackened Chicken Pasta, and the Pita Sandwiches are also great choices! The Crusted Chicken Salad is my favorite! It is a large plate of romaine lettuce, cucumbers, red onions, homemade croutons, and topped with crispy chicken and ranch dressing. It’s awesome!

If you are a local, or you find yourself in LB for a casual lunch with friends, this place is perfect!

The Yeastie Boys Roll through the LBC

The hottest new fad food truck has swept Los Angeles! The Yeastie Boys Bagel Truck is all over the map throughout the week, and it is the definition of bomb dot com. Plus, they feature my favorite food groups: bagels, cheese, and bacon.

I caught them on a Sunday when they drove down to Long Beach’s neighborhood favorite, Lord Windsor Roasters.

This Game Over is a game changer! It’s their not-so-traditional take on a bacon and egg sandwich. It has perfectly cooked scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, sliced tomatoes, beer cheese, avocado, and the best jalapeno spread ever…and I’m not the biggest fan of jalapeno anything.

Their Lox is a sandwich made with lox, dill spread, shaved Persian cucumber, radish, and caper pesto. I didn’t think I was going to love this one, but I LOVED this one. Those Persian cucumbers are out of this world crunchy and the perfect compliment to the spread.
